GSRC was tasked by Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake to design and publish a calendar for the installation’s natural resources department. Headed by GSRC’s lead graphic designer, Ticia Bullion, the effort included re-design of the department’s logo and a compilation of photographs and information on the iconic species found on the installation. Some examples include the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii) and Joshua tree (Yucca brevifolia). The calendar will be used as an educational resource for personnel stationed at the installation as well as families and visitors to the base. It includes recommendations for limiting the spread of invasive or nuisance species and tips for identifying and reporting desert tortoises, venomous snakes, and other notable animals. Efforts like this to raise public awareness of our nation’s natural resources are essential to maintaining our connection to the wild and teaching future generations to value the natural world around us.
