Ms. Black joined GSRC in 2026 and has 5 years under her belt as an Architectural Historian, with 9 years of experience in the field of Historic Preservation overall. She completed her master’s degree coursework at the University of Georgia in 2022 in Historic Preservation, and received a bachelor’s degree from Western Carolina University in 2018 in Anthropology with a focus in Cherokee Archaeology. Her background includes roles in archaeology laboratory curation, public museum management, landscape management research, and historic resource surveyorship. As her career has continued down the path of cultural resource management, her research interests lie at the intersection of architectural history and building material preservation, along with concentrations on community heritage documentation and cultural landscape conservation. Ms. Black has identified herself as a certified lover of old buildings and believes in the power of giving back a voice to those who’ve been silenced throughout history.

Ms. Black’s experience is multifaceted and diverse, providing a solid foundation of technical guidance for state, local, and Federal agencies in various sectors of compliance work. Her work has spanned primarily Oklahoma, Texas, and Georgia, though she has conducted field surveys, desktop reviews, and architectural background research for projects in over two dozen U.S. states. Ms. Black meets and exceeds the Secretary of the Interior’s 36CFR6: Professional Qualification Standards for Architectural History, History, and Historic Preservation.
