Natural Resources

One of GSRC’s primary service areas is natural resources surveys, along with the preparation of management plans for various environmental projects for our clients. GSRC’s biologists have performed hundreds of field surveys in 40 states, including most of the southern and southwestern United States. These field investigations have included threatened, endangered, and sensitive (TES) species surveys for Federally listed and state-listed species, wildlife and bird surveys, aquatic and terrestrial biological surveys, land conditioning and trend analysis (LCTA), and other integrated training area monitoring (ITAM) programs, forest stand inventories, and ecosystem and habitat analyses using Habitat Evaluation Procedures (HEP), Habitat Evaluations System (HES), Wetland Value Assessment (WVA), and Instream Flow Incremental Methodology (IFIM). GSRC has been involved in a variety of investigations ranging from protected species studies such as for pondberry (Lindera melissifolia) to the preparation of Integrated Natural Resources Management Plans (INRMPs).

The following are representative natural resource projects completed by GSRC’s natural resource scientists.

  • Survey and Reverify 62 pondberry colonies, Delta National Forest, Mississippi
  • Federally Endangered Quino Checkerspot Butterfly Survey, San Diego County, California
  • Habitat Evaluation Procedure (HEP) Data Collection, Southeastern Arkansas
  • 23-Mile Endangered Species Survey along the United States – Mexico Border, Arizona
  • Interior Least Tern Survey, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas
  • Biological Assessment of Potential Impacts to Pondberry (Lindera melissifolia) Resulting from the Big Sunflower River Maintenance Project, Delta National Forest, Mississippi
  • Flat Tailed Horned Lizard Monitoring Surveys for Vehicle Barrier Construction near San Luis, Arizona
  • Migratory Bird Surveys in Arizona
  • Delineation and Survey Methods for Predictability of Bogs on Fort Polk, Louisiana
  • Surveys for the Interior Least Tern along the Red River from Denison Dam, Texas to Index, Arkansas
  • Pondberry Profile Endangered Species Study and Survey, Yazoo Backwater Area, Mississippi
  • Revise the Integrated Natural Resource Management Plan and Preparation of Biological Assessment and Environmental Assessment for Fort Gordon, Georgia
